DESIGN PROCESS

Visual Inspiration/Research

Two key element of 18 Victoria are the world is about to end from an incoming meteor and the siblings have been physically separated for over 20 years. In addition, their only means of communication throughout the play is over the phone. Their broken relationship, separation, and the impending meteor impact led me in the direction of fractured structures and interstellar images.

Projection Set-Up/Focusing

In addition to conceptualizing the design, I also was tasked with focusing and setting up the projectors. This was done with a combination of creating an image mask in Adobe Lightroom and then putting the mask into Q-lab to shutter the projectors to the screen shape. We also did not have the means of rigging the projectors, so I had to develop those.

Scenic Painting

I also took charge of the scenic painting. This process consisted of a three color wet scumble to create the galaxy patterns. Then after dry, various spattering was done overtop. We were unable to do the original floor treatment as planned due to limited resources. I decided to then continue the spatter treatments the floor into a similar galactic style as in the rendering.
